Developing Academic Language Skills to Support Comprehension.

Adults who read at a low-level are likely to be deficient in the academic vocabulary required for comprehension in the workplace, higher education, and on the GED tests. Moreover, seeing relationships between words is a critical tool that supports understanding. This workshop explores simple, everyday steps that teachers of adults can use to enhance language and critical thinking abilities.

This session is appropriate for teachers of adults at all levels, especially students who need to improve their reading scores. The techniques explored are also helpful for teachers of ESL students who are transitioning to ABE.

This session will be presented by Joan Grigsby of The Learning Center of North Texas.
