The Coalition provides funds to community and faith-based programs that foster innovation, effectiveness, and responsibility. Funding opportunities range from a scholarship for a student's GED test to a small capacity grant to a program. But no matter the size, our funding supports the efforts of hard-working people.
In 2009, the Coalition awarded 10 grants to support Adult Basic Education (ABE), computer literacy, English as a Second Language/ English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL/ESOL), refugee services, General Educational Development (GED) preparation and Spanish GED preparation classes.
The Coalition funds ongoing literacy projects and the creation of new initiatives. Funding reflects the Coalition's commitment to its mission, which is to "improve the quality and increase the quantity" of literacy programs.
Grants are open to both community and faith-based organizations in the Tarrant County area. Applicants must submit a provider directory application and be approved by the Board of Directors. Further eligibility requirements are listed in specific Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or other application materials.
The Coalition distributes announcements of funding opportunities through our e-mail updates and on our website as funds are available. Successful applications are consistent with our mission and can communicate specific measures of student success and financial responsibility. All proposals are reviewed by the Coalition staff and funds are approved by the Board of Directors.

We are very pleased to announce that The Alcon Foundation has just contributed $10,000 to support our work with adult literacy programs. These funds will further our mission of improving the quality and increasing the quantity of adult literacy services in Tarrant County and surrounding areas. We love working with everyone at Alcon and are very grateful for their investment in our community!
